ELEGY
Sunday, 19. June 2016
Sound performance by Gabrielle Goliath with a group of female vocal performers who collectively enacted a ritual of mourning honouring women who lost their lives through gendered and sexualised violence. Langa Methodist Church, 19 June 2016, 1pm – 2pm.
Goliath directed a reiteration of Elegy, a collaboration with singers from the church’s choir and the University of Cape Town's (UCT) School of Music. The performance commemorated the life of 19-year-old Sinoxolo Mafevuka, who was brutally raped and murdered on 2 March 2016, in Khayelitsha, outside Cape Town.
Thanks to Madoda Mabuto and Xolelwa Kakaza from Langa Methodist Church and to singers Nocwaka Xakekile, Mandisa Hoboyi, Nomzamo Mabuto, Vasti Knoesen, Zoleka Amanda Meke, Abongile Fumba and Athenkosi Hoyi.
